About Your Thyroid Gland

Your thyroid gland requires key nutrients like iodine, and vitamins (especially B). When you take medications or are under stress; or eat a diet low in essential nutrients; you will not have enough nutrients for your thyroid gland to make sufficient thyroid hormones.

Stress creates reverse T3; a metabolism blocker. Stress also makes you convert less T4 (the hormone your thyroid gland makes) to T3 (the active thyroid hormone).

Another key nutrient for thyroid function is selenium.

Thyroid Hormones: T4 And T3

Your thyroid gland makes T4. Your body then needs to convert this into the metabolically active T3 hormone by a process called ‘de-iodination’.

Your body needs trace minerals and nutrients to make and use this life sustaining hormone in your body. Iodine, selenium, B vitamins, and other micro nutrients vital to this process.

Your stress hormone cortisol affects the making and conversion of T4 to T3.

Stress can also cause your metabolism to slow down, by enabling a process similar to hibernation. A thyroid blocking occurs, and everything slows down…. your mood, your gut, your metabolism.

But there is a way to test this process, measure this process and then treat it with professional hypothyroidism treatment.

Reading Thyroid Test Results

All blood tests have a ‘range of normal’. But these tests have both an upper end of normal and a lower end of normal. Generally speaking, just being in the normal range may be considered satisfactory by many professionals. We want your results to place you in the normal range too.

But Live Younger private medical clinic also focus on helping individuals move up into the higher range of normal, since quite frankly, when it comes to your health – the higher range of normal is a much better place to reside.

Even If your body is used to being ‘ high normal’ , if something happens that causes you to slip down to ‘low normal’, you will probably become concerned about not feeling as well as you did before.

When patients are tested, the TSH is usually the only level tested.. This is how your brain senses if you have enough circulating hormone. However, it is now well known that a TSH is not adequate to decide whether or not you really have a a suboptimal thyroid function. That is why T4 (thyroxin) and T3 (tri-iodothyronine) are so important in measuring this process and obtaining vital information.
